  • Substance Abuse Treatment Services Return To Logan County

Lincoln – Logan County Probation and Tazwood Mental Health Centers, Inc. are pleased to announce that the Illinois Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse has granted Tazwood a contract to provide drug and alcohol counseling for Logan County. The community has been without a substance abuse provider since November 2008.

Tazwood, based out of Pekin, Illinois, has been providing services since 1972. They will offer drug and alcohol assessments, outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment, individual and group counseling and aftercare. A counselor will be available five days a week. Tazwood will be located in the Logan County Courthouse, 601 Broadway, Lincoln, Ilinois. Appointments can be made by contacting Vicki Bree at 309-241-1695.

The access to substance abuse services locally will make it feasible for Logan County to implement a Drug Court which the Legislature has required of every county effective January 1, 2010.

Logan County Receives Federal Grant to Address Nonviolent Offenders with Mental Illness

The Logan County Probation Department has received a one-year, $50,000 grant from the federal Bureau of Justice Assistance to create a plan for dealing with nonviolent offenders who have serious mental health conditions.

Logan County Probation will lead the effort to link criminal justice departments with local health and social services. The ultimate aim is to ensure community safety and also see that chronically ill individuals receive appropriate levels of treatment and supervision.

The Logan County Mental Health Initiative (LCMHI) will be a collaboration of the Logan County judges, sheriff, state’s attorney, public defender, police department, and health department, along with local social services.

Tazwood Mental Health Center and TASC, Inc. (Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities) assisted in the application and will participate in the project. Tazwood provides a comprehensive spectrum of mental health and substance abuse treatment services, including services for criminal justice populations. TASC provides clinical assessment, case management, and monitoring of nonviolent offenders who have substance use or mental health conditions.

The project has two primary goals: 1) identify barriers to providing appropriate mental health services to justice-involved individuals in Logan County, and 2) propose a strategic plan to remove these barriers, and work collaboratively toward implementing the plan.

Community input is being sought throughout this process. To participate, please download the "LCHMI Community Input Form" above and return it to the Probation office.
